FAQ

Is my PDF data safe?

Yes. All processing is done entirely in your browser. Your PDF files and passwords never leave your device — no data is uploaded to any server.

What type of encryption is used?

We use AES-256 encryption (PDF 2.0 standard) by default, with an option to use RC4 128-bit for compatibility with older PDF readers. You can choose the algorithm in the tool settings. Encrypted PDFs can be opened in any PDF reader by entering the password.

Can I recover a lost password?

No. PDF passwords cannot be recovered. If you lose the password, the PDF cannot be opened. Always store passwords in a safe place.

What is the difference between user and owner password?

This tool sets both passwords to the same value. The user password controls opening the document, while the owner password restricts printing and editing permissions.

Does it work offline?

Once the page has been loaded, the PDF processing library is cached by your browser. You can encrypt and decrypt PDFs offline.
