Tips & Tricks

Lossless Quality

PNG uses lossless compression, preserving every detail of your PDF pages. It supports transparency and is ideal for text documents, screenshots, and graphics with sharp edges.

When to Use PNG

Choose PNG when you need perfect quality for text-heavy documents, screenshots, or images requiring transparency. It is the best choice when every pixel matters.

PNG Best Practices

Use PNG for documents with text, diagrams, or screenshots. For photographs, JPEG or WebP may produce smaller files. Lower DPI to reduce output size for screen use.

Common Use Cases

FAQ

Are my PDF files uploaded to a server?

No. All processing happens entirely in your browser using the PDF.js rendering engine. Your PDF file never leaves your device, making this tool safe for sensitive or confidential documents.

What makes PNG different from other formats?

PNG uses lossless compression, meaning no image data is lost. It is ideal for text documents, screenshots, and images with sharp edges. Unlike JPEG, PNG supports transparency. Files are larger than JPEG but preserve every pixel perfectly.

How do I select specific pages to convert?

You can convert All Pages, or use Custom Range by entering page numbers. Use commas for individual pages (e.g., 1,3,5) and hyphens for ranges (e.g., 1-5).

What DPI should I use?

72 DPI is standard for screen viewing and web use. 150 DPI offers a good balance of quality and file size. 300 DPI is recommended for high-quality printing. Higher DPI produces significantly larger files.

How many pages can I convert at once?

There is no hard limit on pages, but very large PDFs (200+ pages) at high DPI may consume significant memory. For best results, we recommend converting large PDFs in batches or at a lower DPI.

Why are PNG files sometimes very large?

PNG files are large because they use lossless compression, which preserves every pixel of the original image without any quality loss. Images with text, sharp edges, or high contrast — common in PDFs — do not compress as efficiently as photographs in PNG format.

Can I convert password-protected PDFs?

Currently, password-protected PDFs are not supported. Please remove the password protection before uploading.

Is PNG good for text-heavy documents?

Yes — PNG's lossless compression keeps text and line art razor sharp, which is why it is the preferred output for contracts, slides and UI mockups. Expect larger files than JPEG, but every pixel stays exact.

Does PNG output keep transparency?

Yes, if the PDF page has transparent areas they are preserved in the PNG. Pages rendered as full white backgrounds remain opaque, which matches what print and archiving workflows expect.
