Unlock PDF – Remove PDF Password Online Free
Remove a password from a PDF you can open. Unlocking runs in your browser, so bank statements and contracts stay on your device. AES-256 and RC4 supported.
Runs on your device — nothing is uploaded
This tool removes protection from PDFs you can already open. It never guesses or cracks passwords.

How to unlock a PDF
Add the protected PDF
Drag it in or pick it from your device. Nothing is uploaded — the browser reads the file straight from disk.
Try the empty password first
Plenty of "locked" PDFs open without any password and only restrict printing or copying. Trying empty costs nothing.
Type the password if it is refused
If the PDF demands a password before it opens at all, enter it. Either the user password or the owner password will do.
Download the unlocked copy
You get a new PDF that opens, copies and prints with no password. Your original file is left exactly as it was.
Owner password vs user password
Two different passwords, and only one of them is about opening the file.
| Asks when opening | What it holds back | |
|---|---|---|
| User password | Yes | Nothing gets in without it |
| Owner password | No | Printing, copying, editing and annotations |
That is why the password box may stay empty: a PDF carrying only an owner password is already readable, and lifting the restriction needs no secret. A user password is a different matter — it must be the real one, and the tool tells you plainly when it is wrong.
What this tool will not do
Guess or crack passwords
There is no dictionary attack, no brute force and no recovery mode. Without the password, this tool cannot help you.
Open a file you cannot open
Only PDFs you can already read are accepted. That boundary is what keeps this a permissions tool rather than a cracking tool.
Shrink the file
Unlocking rewrites the document without its encryption entry. It is not a compression step: the result can be a touch larger and is never guaranteed to be smaller.
FAQ
The PDF opens without asking for a password. Can it still be unlocked?
Yes, and that is the most common case. Such a file carries an owner password that blocks printing, copying or editing. Leave the password box empty and the restriction is gone in one click.
Does this crack passwords?
No, and it cannot. The tool never hunts for a password; it decrypts with the one you supply. A wrong password produces an error, never a lucky guess.
Is the text still selectable afterwards?
Yes. Unlocking drops the encryption entry — it does not turn pages into images. Text stays selectable and searchable, which is usually the reason people unlock a statement or a contract in the first place.
Does the unlocked file get smaller?
Not reliably, and it can end up marginally larger. Every page keeps its content, and the old encryption entry tends to survive as an unused leftover. Unlock to regain access; compress separately if size is the problem.
What if the PDF has no protection at all?
The tool spots that the moment the file loads and says so, rather than handing you a pointless copy. Nothing is written, and your original is never modified.
